Class Offerings

All class fees are suggested. SBI offers sliding scale pricing because we believe everyone should have the opportunity to learn how to fix their bike. We teach all ages and abilities, no mechanical experience required! If you have any questions or request for accommodations, please don’t hesitate to reach out via email or phone.

Fix-A-Flat

Just want to learn how to change a flat? We got you! We’ll show you how to identify different types of flat tires, how to safely remove and install a tube, and how to make sure the new tube won’t go flat again. Are your tires tubeless? No problem, we’ll cover that too.

Intro to Maintenance

Whether you’re just getting into biking, or you’ve been doing it your whole life, the Intro to Maintenance class is the perfect jumping off point for your bike mechanic journey. We’ll cover the basics of what tools to carry with you on the bike and how to use them, how to conduct a pre-ride check, how to repair a flat, and some basic on-trail adjustments you can make. We’ll demystify the numbers and words on the side of your tube, and you’ll leave with the confidence to fix your bike when you’re out on a ride. This class runs about 3 hours.

Rear Derailleur Intensive

We know the rear derailleur can be a head scratcher! We’ll unlock the secrets to adjusting, setting up, and diagnosing your rear derailleur. For a more comprehensive understanding of shifting systems, you’ll want to look at our All Things Shifting class. This class runs about 4 hours.

2 Day Maintenance Clinic

Enjoyed our Intro to Maintenance class or already have the basics covered and want to learn more? This class is perfect for those who ride often and are in constant need of fine tuning but can’t imagine a week away from their beloved bike.

5 Day Mechanic’s Intensive

This is our most intensive class, where we’ll strip a bike down to its frame, and build it up again. We explain how every component works, how to diagnose problems, and how the systems of a bike work together to keep you rolling. We do have a two-person minimum for this class. This class is 6-8 hours a day for 5 days.

  • Basic fit and fundamentals of sizing.
  • Cassette, freewheel and chain replacement.
  • Chainring wear and replacement.
  • Bottom bracket overhaul and replacement.
  • Front and rear derailleur adjustments.
  • Shift systems and cable and housing replacement.

  • Hubs and hub overhauls.
  • Headsets and headset overhaul.
